Directions to Fjallsárlón glacier lake and East Fjords

Fjallsárlón glacier lake
Fjallsárlón is a glacial lake located on the south side of the Fjallsjökull glacier tongue. The water from the glacier flows into the nearby lagoon. This forms a breath-taking ice lagoon from where you can see the largest volcano in the country: Öræfajökull. (Photo by: unukorno)
At the point where the glacier reaches the water, icebergs break off and then fall into the lake and continue to melt away.
You can take a boat trip with a zodiac boat on the glacial lake. Book your spot in advance.

Make a solid ride of 228 km along the magnificent East Fjords. From Höfn, follow Route 1 in the direction of Egilsstaðir. Exit the ring route at Breiðdalsvík to enjoy the beautiful sights along the East Fjords on Highway 96.
