Directions to Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss waterfalls
The falls are located about 35 km from Egilsstaðir. On Route 1, drive towards Hallormsstaður and then take Route 931. Follow this road until you cross the bridge at Lagarfljótlake. Then turn left. You will arrive at the parking lot where the trail starts towards the falls. The walk is very doable (2.5 km) but can be tough in some places.

Hengifoss waterfall
Hengifoss waterfall is one of the highest in Iceland.
Litlanesfoss waterfall
The Litlanesfoss is not as high and is therefore sometimes skipped, which is a shame, considering it is a fantastically beautiful waterfall surrounded by thick basalt pillars. The Litlanesfoss flows into the lower Lagarfljot River. This river is 2.5 km at its widest point, and because of this, it looks more like a lake.
