Walk from Skógar to Þórsmörk

From the staircase on the east side of the Skogafoss waterfall, you will find a hiking trail that follows the river upstream. (Photo by: Niels Hageman)
From there, you can walk through the Fimmvörðuháls mountain pass, between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers and walk on to Þórsmörk.
Along the way, you will have spectacular views, but you’llneed to keep your fear of heights under control.
You can normally do this walk of 25 km in one day (6 to 8 hours). It is also possible to spread it over two days and stay in one of the two mountain huts (tip: choose the 2nd hut). Be sure to bring rainproof clothing with you when you start the hike.
